MAKING WAVES

The visual identity for a nautical exhibition.

Making Waves is a conceptual exhibition for pioneering boat design, featuring a bespoke typeface and an identity born from the language of boat sails and signalling flags, with the angled logo reflecting the way type and sail numbers are printed onto sails.

The exhibition logo is angled to reflect how sail numbers are placed onto sails to maximise the available space for printing.

Sails display is a typeface made specifically for the exhibition, taking inspiration from nautical design such as boat class symbols and sail numbers.

Inspired by the international signalling flags for M and W, the exhibition has its own flag to promote the event.

︎︎︎

The identity is built around nautical inspiration, including colours from signalling flags, and a zigzag motif that reflects the distinctive stitch used on sails.

Wayfinding is formed from the shapes seen in flags, as well as using the exhibition flag as an arrow.
